The Knippa tennis players kicked off the 2017 season with a grand opening of the new tennis court complex on Monday with balloons, food, drinks, and a ribbon cutting ceremony before getting all six new courts for some practice.

Wednesday, January 18th, Seventeen high school players travailed to Hondo for a dual match with the Owl team. The Crushers got off to a slow start but finished very well in the second round to take 8 set wins to Hondo's 13 wins.

Playing in their first high school contest were freshmen Vincent Zavala, David Mehrle, Jason Samarippa, Diego Esquivel, Madison Barkley and Miaya Esquivel. Sophomore participants included Natalia Figueroa-Silva, Candace Suarez, and Emily Cortez.

Upper class athletes in the meet include juniors Gabby Menchaca, Sabrina Maltos, Coby Gass, Elias Alardin, and Lizandra Figueroa-Silva. Senior players are Dylan DeLeon, Kloe Martinez, and Chanice Rattler.

Coach Radicke and Coach Speer were pleased with the competition and feel excited about the upcoming season and all the excellent courts for lots of good practice to improve skills for both the junior high and high school players. Thanks to all who donated funds to help build the new courts.

Coach,
Jerry Radicke
