This past weekend the Knippa Rockcrusher Varsity tennis team competed in the TTCA 1A-3A State Team Tennis tournament in the Round Rock area.   There were a total of 16 teams in which Knippa was the only 1A team. Teams included Academy, Mason, Wall, Shallowater, White Oak, Knippa, Brock, Kirbyville, Kountze, San Saba, Spearman, Ingram, Wink, Reagan County Thrall and Groesbeck.

KHS began the day with a 11-7 win against Shallowater.  Single’s entries for KHS girls included Candace Suarez, McKaia Barnes, Bethany Keeney, Gabby Menchaca, Liz Figueroa-Silva, and Rylee Dodson.  Singles entries for the boys included Ryan Cox, Carlos Koehl, Diego Esquivel, Jason Samarripa, Vincent Zavala, and Troy Santos. Doubles entries for girls, mixed and boys included Gabby Menchaca and Bethany Keeney, Candace Suarez and McKaia Barnes, Liz Figueroa-Silva and Emily Cortez, Vincent Zavala and Madison Barkley, Ryan Cox and Carlos Koehl, Diego Esquivel and Jason Samarripa, Isaac Andres and Chevy Collins, and Coby Gass and Elias Alardin.

Following our match against Shallowater the Crushers would then play Wink.  They dominated Wink with a 10-8 final score. The kids played so hard! The final match came down to either Liz or Troy winning their singles match.  This is what team tennis is all about. Knippa was cheering as loud as they could for every point! Liz finished with a 6-2, 6-4 win!

Saturday they had to play Wall at 8:30 am in Georgetown.  The crushers put everything they had into their matches. We finished by falling short to Wall 14-2.  We had 7 matches that split and played tiebreakers. Bethany Keeney and Vincent Zavala both were the only matches we took from Wall.

Saturday afternoon at 1:30 we played Reagan County for 3rd place.  Our kids were tired but played til they nearly fell over.  Knippa took a loss to RC 13-6. Coach Alejandro and I are so proud of these athletes!  They took 4th out of 16 schools!!  This was an amazing weekend for these kids!!!!!!
