Twenty one high school tennis players have returned home from last weekend's 3A and Under State team tennis tournament tired, but happy with a consolation championship or a 9th place finish among the 16 teams that qualified for the state meet.

An unlucky draw placed Knippa against strong third seeded team from Wall in the first round of action. KHS put up a good fight, but lost 7 to 10 to Wall to move into the consolation bracket.

In the second round of action, Knippa played hard to defeat Thrall in an 11 to 8 decision. In the third round of play, Knippa faced Kirbyville. KHS dominated the match up 14 to 3 win. In the consolation finals, the Knippa team topped Franklin in a 12 to 3 decision to end up with 1 loss and 3 wins in the 16 team tournament.

Coach Radicke reports that the rain on Friday was very frustrating for everyone, but the KHS squad handled all the delays well and held up strong in the 3 and a half rounds of play of Saturday forcing at least 7 KHS athletes to play as many as 7 matches in one day. Appreciation is extended to Coach Salazar and to all the parents who were there to support the Rockcrusher team. Coach Radicke is proud of all the players and especially proud of the 9 seniors who did an excellent job in their final state team tennis tourney. They are Seth Parry, Wes Beltran, Noah Esquivel, Victor Ortiz, Jose Alonzo, Adrian Estrada, Andrew Johnson, Lauren Rentch, and Jazmin Garza.

Other players in the tourney were juniors Dylan DeLeon, Kloe Martinez, sophomores Carlos Koehl, Ryan Cox, Coby Gass, Natalie Coleman, Gabby Menchaca, Bethany Keeney and freshman Bailey Wimberley, Ryann Stidham, Candace Suarez, Rebekah Ramirez, and Emily Cortez.
