In a regional team tennis tourney sponsored by the Texas Tennis Coaches Association last weekend, the Knippa team captured third place. The meet was not completed due to a rain out on Saturday. This allowed the finalist teams from Ingram and San Antonio Randolph to advance to the State team tennis meet set for next weekend in the Round Rock area. On Friday, March 3, Knippa defeated a Sabinal/D'Hanis team 10 - 4 to go to the finals. Randolph topped Leakey 10 - 5 in their first round then downed Utopia 10 - 5 in their semifinals to advance to the finals. Knippa downed Utopia 12 - 4 in a late match up on Friday evening to take third place. Randolph and Ingram did not get to play on Saturday due to rain, so they will advance without giving the KHS team a possible chance for a playback for second. The KHS junior varsity players also got in some action in the tourney with a respectable round of play against the Utopia squad in the first round with a 12 - 6 win for Utopia. The Sabinal/D'Hanis team downed Leakey in the consolation round.
