Knippa Tennis Athletes Won Majority of Tennis Matches In Uvalde

In tennis competition last weekend in Uvalde involving 17 area and San Antonio schools, the Knippa athletes won a majority of their matches and are improving each week with their strokes. Emily Cortez and Lizandra Figueroa-Silva won four rounds to claim first place in girls’ 2 doubles.  Chanice Rattler and Sabrina Maltons won two of four matches to take 4th in the same division.  Gabby Menchaca and Bethany Keeney won three of four rounds for a 5th place spot in the 1 girls’ doubles division. In boys’ doubles, Brandon Capeheart and Chevy Collins won 3 of 4 matches to take third place in the 2 division.  Diego Esquivel and Jason Samarippa won 2 or 4 to take 6th place in the 1 boys’ doubles. In girls’ 1 singles Candace Suarez won 2 of 4 rounds for a 4th place finish. In the boys’ 1 singles Coby Gass played only one day of the two day event to win one of two rounds. In the 1 mixed doubles, Dylan DeLeon and Nayelli Avilla won two of three rounds for a 7th place finish.   Isaac Andres and Madison Barkley had two byes but won one of two other rounds for 5th place in the 2 mixed doubles. This Friday and Saturday, Knippa will host the Regional 3-A and Under Team Tennis tourney in Uvalde on Friday and at the playing sites of Knippa, Sabinal, and Hondo on Saturday. This afternoon, the Junior High team will host Utopia and Medina for a tennis scrimmage.
