Powerlifting Off To A Great Start

Thursday 1/11/2018
The girls competed in their first powerlifting meet of the year at the UTSA women's powerlifting meet. At the meet Knippa competed against four 6A schools, one 5A school, three 4A schools and two 3A schools. Erin Garza placed 4th, while Joshlynn Saucedo placed 5th and Bobbi Ligocky placed 7th. Claire Dean placed 6th and Ale Carmona placed 7th. Tressa Reading placed 4th in her weight class and Sophia Rodriguez placed 5th in the meet.

As it stands Erin Garza is ranked 2nd in the region in 1A/2A in her weight class, while Joshlynn is ranked 3rd and Bobbi Ligocky is ranked 4th in the region. Claire Dean is currently ranked 2nd in the region in her weight class in 1A/2A, while Ale Carmona is ranked 3rd in the same weight class. Tressa Reading is currently ranked 2nd in the region in her weight class and Alexis is ranked 4th in the same weight class. Both Sophia Rodriguez and Destiny Deleon are both ranked 3rd in the region in 1A/2A in their respected weight classes.

Erin Garza, Claire Dean, Alexis Mcillwain and Destiny DeLeon all lifted over 400 pounds in the meet and Tress Reading and Sophia Rodriguez lifted over 500 pounds in the meet. Coach King was very pleased with all ten girls at the meet with nine of the girls being their 1st meet ever.

Thursday 1/15/2018
Last Thursday the Knippa Men’s Powerlifting team competed at the UTSA invitational powerlifting meet in San Antonio. Some of Knippa’s standouts were Ernest Garza placing 5 th in the 132 weight class having lifted a combined total of 585 pounds. Ethan Whitehead placed 6 th in the 165 pound weight class. Jordan Lara placed 4th in the 181 pound weight class with an impressive combine total of 1,080 pounds. Adam Andres placed 5th in the 220 pound weight class having lifted a combined total of 820 pounds. Adrian Gomez placed 7 th in the Super Heavyweight division, having lifted a combined total of 920 pounds. Both Jordan and Adrian hold a top 12 seed in the region, with Jordan ranked 7th in the region in the 181 weight class and Adrian holding on to the 10th position. If both can stay in the top 12, then they will advance to regionals in March.

1/20/2018
On Saturday the Knippa women’s powerlifting team competed at the Carrizo Springs Invitational meet at Carrizo Springs High School. Some of the top 6A, 5A and 4A powerlifting teams were at this meet. Some of Knippa’s standouts were Erin Garza medaling in the 114 weight class. Alexis Mcillwain also medaled in the 148 pound weight class. Even though Iyesha Trevino did not medal, her combined weight total has placed her 2nd in the region for 1A/2A division. If Iyesha can keep that position, she will advance to
the regional meet in March.
