Date Posted: Thursday, March 12, 2020
Claire Haughey enrolled in KISD in the 7 th grade. She has enjoyed spending time with her classmates and basketball team during her six years as a Rockcrusher. Haughey believes she will miss basketball the most after graduation. Her fondest memory was winning district as a junior high player against rival, Rocksprings. While attending school, Haughey has participated in varsity basketball, FFA, Knippa 4-H, and been on the yearbook staff. Her proudest accomplishments have been winning a creative writing award at Southwest Texas Junior College and performing at Carnegie Hall with her church choir. Haughey’s funniest experience in high school was when she and some of her classmates joined the homecoming parade in a truck. “We weren’t supposed to have a float,” she stated. A unique experience for Haughey is that she has lived in Alaska every summer of her life. “My family commercial setnets for salmon on Kodiak Island,” shared Haughey. Advice that Haughey gives to younger students is to have fun, but also make sure you stay on top of schoolwork. Haughey’s future plans are to attend Southwestern University in the fall. She also hope to get into the University Choir.
