Knippa High School Senior, Luke Henry Alejandro has been chosen for the very selective Rice-Baylor Medical Scholars Program.
Luke was chosen from an initial pool of over 1600 applicants as 1 of the 25 finalists who then went through a series of virtual interviews with a panel from the Baylor College of Medicine this past February. Only 3 of these finalists earned the invite to the Rice-Baylor Medical Scholars Program.
The Rice-Baylor Medical Scholars Program is a partnership between Rice University and Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas that promotes the education of students who are scientifically talented, compassionate towards others and socially conscious. Through this joint effort they seek to enroll students of high achievement that desire to work in healthcare and represent the diverse communities in which they serve.
Through this program, Baylor College of Medicine gives exceptional senior high school students acceptance to medical school upon completion of their degree at Rice University. The program allows eight years of mentoring, enrichment activities, and opportunities for internships as well as collaboration with medical leaders from the Houston community.
Alejandro will attend Rice University in the fall on a full four-year scholarship grant. He will major in Biology on a Pre-Med track with a Medical Humanities minor. Alejandro aspires to become a medical doctor and serve his community as a leader and an advocate for those in need.
