Home / District News / Luke Adame Powerlifting Regional Bound
Luke Adame, a KHS Sophomore, had advanced past district in powerlifting. Adame, along with head powerlifting coach, Jessie Rodriguez, are traveling to Kingsville, TX for the competition. This advancement is special, as this is only the 2nd year since KHS restarted the powerlifting program.
Luke Adame began his powerlifting career last year in the equipped division totaling 810lbs. This total is determined by combining your top weights on squat, bench, and deadlift. On January 14, Luke competed in his first meet in the unequipped 148lbs weight class, totaling 725lbs. Adame decided that he wanted to cut weight to compete in the 132lbs weight class. Meeting his goal, he competed in the lower weight class on February 14, totaling 760lbs. This meet qualified him for regionals. Finally on February 25, Adame missed his new weight class by 1 pound, and was forced to compete in the 148lbs weight class. This was not a major issue, as he had already qualified for regionals. At this meet, Adame totaled 815lbs, beating last year's weight by 5 pounds, which is a lot in the sport of powerlifting.
In a statement, KISD Chief of Police and Powerlifting Coach, Rube Rodriguez made the following remarks:
“Luke is a very hard worker in the gym and is always pushing himself just to get that extra pound on the bar. I strongly feel Luke will make it to state next year if he keeps on training during off season.”
Wish Luke good luck!!
