Mrs. Trevino and Mr. Alejandro assume roles as UIL Academics Director at KISD.

After a previous exciting year in UIL Academics, this year's leadership comes with a change. After serving as UIL Director, Coach for Mathematics, Speaking, and Congress, Knippa Mathematics teacher Lory Zimmerman retired after 5 years as UIL Director and 39 years in the classroom. In her final year of coaching, Knippa took 1st place at district, with an impressive 577.5 points (beating 2nd place by over 2X). At the regional meet in Brehnam, the team took 1st overall once again. At the state meet, 16 KISD students traveled to the state capitol. After two days of competition, The Rockcrushers left Austin earning 5th place. But now it is time to look ahead to a new year with new changes to our UIL team. Mrs. Rebekah Trevino and Mr. Steve Alejandro have taken on the important roles of UIL Director. Mrs. Trevino, a KISD science teacher, has faithfully coached her UIL Science team to state for 7 years. She has even coached 2 gold medal winning teams. Mr. Alejandro, a KISD business and social studies teacher, has countless plaques displayed in his classroom. The plaques represent success in Current Issues & Events, Social Studies, and Number Sense. Mr. Alejandro coached state champions in social studies in 2021, current events in 2023, and number sense in 2024. Trevino and Alejandro have already started preparations for this year's UIL teams. Sign up sheets have been turned in, and schedules are being prepared. Knippa students are excited to begin practice for UIL in early September. KISD will attend 3 practice meets before the district competition in late March 2026.
