Roberto Cantu is a Math teacher at Knippa ISD.  He is married to Brenda M. Cantu, the Library Director for Southwest Texas College. Prior to teaching at Knippa, Mr. Cantu taught Math, Robotics and STEM in Uvalde, was the College and Career Advisor at the high school, and taught Math in La Pryor at the start of his career. During his own experience as a student Mr. Cantu attributes his passion for teaching to many amazing educators he had throughout his school years, but primarily to Mr. Trevino, his 4th grade teacher who helped him learn to speak English.  His efforts to support Mr. Cantu’s education inspired him to be “the teacher he needed” for others in the future. Another teacher was Mrs. Cockerill, his Spanish and AcaDec teacher who showed him that you can make a bigger impact on people with empathy and understanding. Mr. Cantu attended Sul Ross University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish, with a minor in Psychology.  He became certified to teach Math during his first year in education.  He later attended Walden University where he earned a Masters of Science in Education for Instructional Technology and Curriculum.  Fun fact he just passed the EC-6 core subject certification exam this past summer. He is a fan of technology and table top games. He tries to be in the know when it comes to bionics, artificial intelligence, and robotics. He also tries to encourage people to experience new tabletop games that promote spending time with friends and family. He is also tries to be a competitive player for the game Magic The Gathering TCG during his summer breaks. Mr. Cantu is also the coach for the Circuit Breakers, a program of competitive robotics teams who are part of the 4-H program out of Uvalde County.  He has been coaching this group for the past two years and is looking forward to this upcoming season!
